Aaron John is a musician and songwriter from London.
He begun playing guitar at 13 after discovering the power of heavy metal and punk through the likes of the Ramones, Dead Boys, Megadeth and GWAR (yes, GWAR!) For the first time in his life he was listening to music with balls that made up it’s own rules as it went along. As his playing and songwriting developed his range of influences broadened along with it. Hearing Gish by the Smashing Pumpkings for the first time would turn Aaron on to the more alternative sound, and a mixed tape given to Aaron by a school friend would make him look back 60 years to the blues guitar magic conjured by Robert Johnson, Charlie Patton, Son House and Skip James. He formed his first band with his best friend from school Shane Mahoney. The band was called The Lazarus Kill, a punk/metal trio consisting of Aaron on bass, Shane on guitar and vocals and various drummers. The Lazarus Kill was active from 2003 – 2007, had a solid fan base on the London toilet scene and self released an EP that was praised by Metal Hammer Magazine. In 2009 Aaron formed Boy of the AfterThought (often abbreviated to BFTA). It is a mostly studio based project that incorporates a diverse range of musical styles using elements of psychedelic, dream pop, minimalist, post rock, garage rock and gothic. They signed a distribution deal with Plastic Head in 2010 and released their first album Lupa in May 2011 which received mostly very positive reviews. A new album release is scheduled for 2012. Aaron also writes and performs acoustically.
