Last Of The Barstools

April 3rd 2013

Last of the Barstools are a two piece, folk act from South London. Chief songwriter Mark was introduced to co-vocalist Laura Davies on a whiskey filled night in Dublin when Laura was over from her native Essex visiting friends for the weekend. And then – after synchronised dancing, sleepless nights, riverside wine, sing along taxi rides and back seat debauchery – a close song writing and personal¬†relationship was born. In January 2010 they moved into a flat together in the bustling Bohemia of Camden Town to focus solely on music. Despite the inevitable hedonistic revelries and liquid distractions of London, they played and collaborated with various musicians across the capital for well over a year. In April 2011 having moved across the Thames, the pair decided to go it alone and formed a two piece acoustic act called “Last of the Barstools” ; The name itself, a testament to the disappearing tradition of folklore and storytelling within Irish public houses, where people would gather to hear wonderful insights and magical tales from times past. They write character based, story songs, often based on both a man and woman’s differing perspectives. Whether it’s love, loss, hope or redemption they retain the belief in the power of the small song to influence, inspire, and awaken the heart and soul. With a debut EP scheduled for late April and some exciting summer tour dates on the horizon we are hoping that 2012 proves an exciting year for Last of the Barstools. Give us a listen, and if you like come along to one of our shows, we’ll try not to disappoint.
